I currently live in apartments in Champaign, IL. The Sol Tec internet service we have is abysmal. If it's not cutting out it's about to. If it finally stops cutting out the download speeds are not comparable to what it costs (maxing at ~60-70kb/s) and the upload speeds are atrocious.
I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist, but the upload speeds generally peak right when you start an upload and as soon as you continue to upload it drops down. It appears they're trying to get it to appear that it is much faster then it is. We currently have a sustained upload speed of approximately 6kb/s and it has been this way for months (if not longer since I have just moved in).
Their customer service always answers the phone rather quickly, but provides no help, they just say either "we provide no guarantees on speeds" or say "there's a virus on the network." The virus issue may be true, however they boot people off for having virus troubles, so if they can track down the people and boot them off for virus trouble they should be able to cut their bandwidth off also.
Overall I give Sol Tec a D on service. Go other places for cheaper, faster internet. |
