ok, localnet doesn't use their own modem drivers, you have to keep your own computer up to date. that is why the connection speed differs if you came from AOL or People PC. and thats a reason why its cheaper. And if you are getting a slow connection, check your phone lines. For the price, its a great service. The tech support isn't farmed out to India or out of country. You have to cancel in writing so your EX husband or whatever can't just call and cancel the connection. Its a lot of legal issues. You can put the account on HOLD then send a cancellation letter. Its not rocket science.

I signed up with localnet one day,the next day my computer crashed so I called to cancel my service was told I could only cancel via fax, so I faxed my cancelation notice. The next day they charged my bank acct. anyway. I called cs was told they would refund my money on the 15th of the next month, it is now the 23rd and still no refund called again and was told because a user name had been established ther would be no refund.My opion just the same as stealing.

I called them up and they said they did not get the fax even though they had a record of me calling to cancel and I had a receipt from the fax. They would not refund me my money for something I didn't use for 3 months. Report them to the Attorney General

Localnet is a prime example of "Getting what you pay for". I pay 12 dollars a month. I have NEVER had speeds higher than 28.8kps with localnet. That means NEVER 56 K either! Customer support has usually been good on the phone but there have been times that its obvious I'm to stupid to go and use their website and I've made a grave error in calling them by phone. I chose localnet as I live in the country and cant get ANY resonable highspeed out here. I was warned but I had to find out for myself

when you need to close your account with them, they will not cancel it on the phone, they we make you write a letter to one of there offices asking to cancel, i am in this process now.

Stay away from Localnet, it is a very unprofessional company, they charged my credit card when they said they would not, they said they provided specific services when they did not. and I'm still waiting for a refund. The bottom line is they lie to there customers !
